Rio de Janeiro

RioFamed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Rio de Janeiro, with the complete name Cidade de São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, is a big coastal city of the state with the same name. It is well known for its carnival, considered as the greatest in the world. Rio, compared to the other Brazilian cities, is unique in its lifestyle.

Rio was the capital of independent Brazil from 1822 until 1960 before the transfer of the national capital to Brasilia. Despite this transfer which cut many of its advantages, Rio thrived as a commercial, financial and tourist pole. This city is the third largest metropolis in South America, the most popular and frequented tourist destination of Brazil, and the most visited city in South America. The Brazilian government has implemented big infrastructure to put up with the needs of the visitors, including great accommodations and plenty of tours.

 Recife

RecifeRecife is the capital of the state of Pernambuco, the fourth largest and one of the most exciting city of Brazil with its historic center, rivers, islets, modern hotels and restaurants, its impressive coastal setting and its famous carnival. Recife got its name from the offshore reefs (recifes) that slow down the aggressiveness of the sea waves and calm the waters of its ports and shoreline. It was founded in 1537 during the early Portuguese colonization of Brazil and is called the “Brazilian Venice” because of the many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges that characterize the city.

The pre-carnival activities of Recife begin in December with percussion groups playing in local clubs, city streets and squares. The official carnival starts the week before Ash Wednesday with the “Galo de madrugada”, a downtown-Recife party that attracts many people from several states of Brazil and other countries in the world.

Recife has a zoo with 800 animals, established over 387 hectares of forest and 14 hectares of botanical gardens. Likewise, the metropolitan area has a huge water park called Veneza Water Park that has nearly one million square feet of area.
